In some instances, courses may be used as credit toward both degrees. Students are encouraged to use the summer before medical school and the summers before entering PhD program for laboratory rotations. During research years, students are encouraged to continue clinical activities, such as outpatient clinic preceptorships, as permitted by their schedules.
